Charlie Sheen is lined up to play Orbison

- BY ASHLEIGH RAINBIRD Deputy Showbiz Editor

CHARLIE Sheen has been approached to play Roy Orbison in a biopic of the late singing legend.

Orbison’s son, Roy Jr, revealed his dad had asked Charlie’s father Martin Sheen, now 77, to portray him when he mooted the idea back in the 1980s.

Roy Jr said Charlie, 52, seemed keen on the idea and even started getting into character by “driving around wearing Orbison sunglasses in my dad’s convertible Cadillac”.

The family have finalised a script, put together by the writers behind Stand By Me and Starman.

Orbison, 52, who died in 1988, will be recreated as a hologram, backed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, in a tour starting in Cardiff in April.
