£27m police cash.. as cop stations shut

- BY MIKEY SMITH

HOME Secretary Amber Rudd tried to mend fences with police chiefs with a £27million cash boost.

Her promise of aid for special projects came as London Mayor Sadiq Khan said cuts had forced him to close at least 38 police stations and counters.

Police spending in the capital is £600million down under the Tories.

Mr Khan said: “The drastic nature of cuts to policing budgets has left us with no choice but to take drastic action.” Closures will support more officers on the beat, he said.

Ms Rudd vowed to back officers involved in moped chases in her speech to police chiefs in London.

She said: “We will always support police and officers, not the people who commit these crimes.”
