27 years’ jail for killer with a stolen car

A THIEF who ran over and murdered a former naval officer with his own car has been jailed for at least 27 years.

Mike Samwell’s widow, Jessica, told a court how her life had been destroyed before Ryan Gibbons got a life sentence yesterday.

Mrs Samwell wept as she said: “There’s an overwhelming sense everyone’s life has remained the same and mine has changed beyond recognition and without warning.”

Gibbons, 29, twice ran over 35-year-old Samwell, 35, as he tried to steal his Audi S3 in Chorlton, south Manchester, the city’s crown court heard.

Raymond Davies, 21, who drove the killer to Mr Samwell’s home, got eight years for manslaughter and other offences.
