Xmas run-up spending set to hit £79bn
BRITONS will splash out £78.69 billion in the sixweek run-up to Christmas.
Despite rising inflation and Brexit uncertainty, their spending will rise by 1.4% on last year.
Families aim to blow £821 on food, drink and gifts, according to the Centre for Retail Research and VoucherCodes.
Spending on children is set to rise 8.7% from £46.17 to £50.21 and booze, home entertainment and jewellery will also have a boom.
But sales of gift cards, vouchers and gadgets are set to fall by up to 10.5%.
VoucherCodes’ Paul Lewis said: “It seems Brits are still happy to splash their cash to make the most of the festive season.”
