Home run to Saints could be Shaw thing

- EXCLUSIVE EXCLUS BY JAMES NURSEY

LUKE SHAW is eyeing a shock return to Southampton in January as hish unhappiness at Manchester United deepens. Saints are considering selling England left to left-back Ryan Bert rand to Man chest Manchester City when the transfer winwindow opens. And a movemo to take fellow international, intern atio 22- year-old Shaw (left) back to St Mary’s is a growingg possibility. Boss Pep Guardiola wants another leftback in addition to £52million Benjamin Mendy, who is recovering after knee surgery. Bertrand, 28, who has 17 England caps, fits the bill for Guardiola.

A job back at Saints would give Shaw the opportunity to play regular first-team football and push his World Cup claims.

He has returned to full fitness since ankle surgery in May but has been restricted to two League Cup games so far this season.

Shaw joined United for £27m in 2014 on a four-year deal but is so disillusioned at Old Trafford, where his relationship with boss Jose Mourinho is strained, he is unlikely to sign any contract extension.

The Londoner is also keen to return south, nearer his family.
