Brown sets record straight on Arctic Monkeys fan myth
GORDON Brown has finally destroyed the myth he liked the Arctic Monkeys.
While Chancellor an interview led to a “PR disaster” when it was reported he was a fan of the Sheffield band.
The ex-PM writes in his memoirs he was asked by a mag in 2006 if he preferred them or James Blunt.
“Not knowing much about either, I said I actually pre- ferred Coldplay but added: ‘Well, the Arctic Monkeys would certainly wake you up in the morning,’” he writes in My Life, Our Times – out on Tuesday. “That one throwaway remark instantly led to a bit of a political storm. All hell broke loose about me trying too hard to present myself as someone I was not. “A myth was born. In this mediadrenched world Prime Ministers and ministers must be on their guard all the time.”
