£50k goes South for Matthew
TEAM England have broken the record for the world’s fastest hole of golf.
Ian Poulter skippered the quartet of Tyrrell Hatton, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Matthew Southgate to glory in Antalya in a lightning-quick time of 32.70sec. They broke the previous record set by France by two seconds.
But Southgate was pranked by his team-mates, who told him the winners were in line for a £50k jackpot each. Fitzpatrick revealed: “Apparently he went up to a European Tour official and asked when we’d get the 50 grand!”
Ryder Cup legend Poulter added: “I didn’t think I’d ever set a Guinness world record. But it’s there and it’s awesome.”
Southgate and Fitzpatrick are six shots off leader Nicolas Colsaerts after the second round of the Turkish Airlines Open.
