It’s time for a change

JOCKEY Gay Kelleway’s shocking accusations of harassment from male rivals demand a detailed response from the horse racing industry.

Some of her allegations would have meant police inquiries and possible charges.

Sweeping her account under the carpet with the old excuse that it was long ago and much has changed is no longer acceptable.

The intimidation, assaults, disparagement and menacing complained of by Kelleway will be only too familiar to those coming forward in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein and other scandals. They are saying enough is enough.

With politics also convulsed by emerging victims, this is a moment when Britain can either change for the better or stay the same.

We hope it is for the better and women such as Kelleway must be applauded.

Men who sneer that she should have acted earlier are part of the problem. They fail to appreciate the courage required to speak out.
