- BY JAMES PODESTA

A SIGNED portrait of Adolf Hitler presented to David Lloyd George is expected to fetch £22,000 at auction.

The former PM received the 11in by 9in picture on his infamous visit to the Nazi dictator in 1936.

On returning home, the veteran politician claimed Hitler did not want war and even declared him the “greatest living German”.

The photo - with the message “Mr Lloyd George, in kind remembrance of his contribution to my Germany” – most recently belonged to a book dealer.

It will be sold by Dominic Winter Auctions of Cirencester, Glos, on Thursday. Spokesman Chris Albury said: “It is one of the most historically significant presentation photographs of Hitler to ever come up for sale.”
