SHOCKED WAGNER IN DREAMLAND

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

GERMANS are famous for their fairytales - but even David Wagner admits he cannot believe the one he is writing at Huddersfield.

He has transformed the Terriers, taking them from fighting relegation in the Championship to the top half of the Premier League.

The German (right), who celebrated his second anniversary as manager yesterday, credited everyone from owner Dean Hoyle to the players, the staff and the fans for the success. “Even when I speak about where we are in Premier League with 15 points from 11 games, it does not feel realistic,” he said.

“This is more than a fairytale.

“You can only deliver what the players deliver if you get support from the stands. You can’t do it, the high energy, the pressing, if the crowd don’t back you – and they back you here.”

After the high of a first win over Manchester United since 1952 a fortnight ago, Wagner was even more satisfied by how his 10 men held on to beat West Brom.

“This was another highlight,” he said. “Two weeks ago was the biggest win for the club. This was the biggest win for me and the group because the players have shown, if necessary, they can play a different way.”

Town full-back Florentine Hadergjonaj, who made his full league debut, said: “For me, he’s a very important boss. He has a big personality, is a big manager and I think he will keep doing well.”
