DID YOU KNOW?

-

There’s more to nail biting than chewed nails. Nail biting is a habit that can begin in childhood and continue through your adult life. It’s a bad habit and it’s more harmful than you probably think. Biting your nails increases the risk of damage to your teeth from cracking or chipping. Our nails are made of keratin, which is a hard material that isn’t meant to be chewed on, making the chances of damaging your teeth that much greater. By biting your nails you wear down your teeth faster, increasing the chances of enamel erosion, a misaligned bite, and other dental problems. Nail biting often creates jagged, uneven edges which can increase your risk of gum damage. Your nails can scrape or break the surface of your gum and expose it to bacteria that is present on your nails.
