Anger over soaps’ shock storylines

-

UPSETTING Kylie Platt dies on cobbles in husband David’s arms PAT Phelan’s killing spree on Corrie is the latest in a long line of soap shocks.

The ITV soap had 1,204 complaints from March 2016 to 2017 – and the most controversial moment was when Eva Price made a “racist” joke about her hair.

Another incident that caused shock was Kylie Platt bleeding to death after being stabbed in July 2016. In 2003, murderer Richard Hillman sparked complaints and the same year viewers were uneasy at the show tackling teen pregnancy in a plot involving Sarah-Louise Platt. Her situation was complicated by boyfriend Todd struggling with his homosexuality. And their baby died soon after birth. In HAIR-RAISING Eva Price Emmerdale earlier this year, Aaron Dingle took a brutal beating from a prison bully, prompting 275 complaints from Ofcom. And the 2011 EastEnders story in which Ronnie Branning lost her baby and swapped him for Kat and Alfie Moon’s newborn son resulted in 13,400 complaints to the BBC and 1,044 to Ofcom.
