Teachers call for a 5% rise

TEACHING staff today demand an “immediate” 5% pay rise in a letter to Education Secretary Justine Greening.

The education unions warn “seven years of real terms cuts” in pay has hit the supply of staff, with potential recruits finding better paid jobs.

The letter said the “critical” situation needed “firm and decisive action” to restore pay levels to those in place before 2010.
