Moyes facing massive battle to win over the West Ham fans as he’s greeted with howls of protest after replacing sacked Bilic

- BY DARREN LEWIS

DAVID MOYES starts work at West Ham today determined to win over the fans who don’t want him.

The 54-year-old will take training this morning following Slaven Bilic’s sacking yesterday.

And the club want supporters to give Moyes a chance after two major polls were overwhelmingly against him getting the job, with 90 per cent voting “no”. Editor of

the Knees Up Mother Brown fan website Graeme Howlett, said: “He could be fantastic or he could be a liability.

“What he did with Everton was five years ago. Since then it has been a litany of failure. He has everything to prove.”

Moyes, a massive hit during his 11-year spell at Everton, joined Manchester United in 2013 but was sacked within a year. He was dismissed by Real Sociedad and quit Sunderland.

He has agreed a performance-related deal, weighted heavily towards keeping the club up. Moyes will be given money to spend in January and is confident he can steer the Hammers to safety.

Should he succeed he will get another two years. Should he fail to impress – even if he keeps them up – the club will activate a break clause and seek a new manager next summer.

Bilic was sacked at the club’s Rush Green training ground yesterday at 10.55am. His coaching staff will also depart, apart from goalkeeping coach Chris Woods.

The Croat said: “There are no hard feelings. I can be proud of my work. We didn’t start this crucial season well. As in many clubs across Europe, the manager is the one who pays the price. It’s a logical move.”

A statement from owners David Gold and David Sullivan (above) insisted Bilic had conducted himself with “honesty and integrity” and the decision to sack him had been taken “with disappointment and heavy hearts”.
