Guy Fawkes causes smog spike
BONFIRES and fireworks increased air pollution across parts of the UK.
Seven regions had “high” or “very high” levels, probably due to Guy Fawkes Night celebrations, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said.
North Wales and the North West and Merseyside had “very high” levels. The Highlands, Central Scotland, the East Midlands, the Scottish Borders and Yorkshire and Humberside had “high” levels.
November 5 was the coldest night of autumn this year, with Britain waking up to frost and icy dew lining fields and trees.
A temperature of –6C was recorded in Braemar, Aberdeenshire.
