Big Fat Gypsy court fight on dress designs
TWO stars of Channel 4’s Big Fat Gypsy Weddings are locked in a court fight over “stolen” dress designs.
Thelma Madine, 65, claims Leanne Phillips, 35, copied her 2011 Fan Dress for a client in 2014 and also modelled a figurine on it.
The pair had worked together at Ms Madine’s Liverpool-based shop Nico but fell out in 2012 and Ms Phillips set up a rival outfit.
She denies copying what Ms Madine refers to as her “game-changing” design and her barrister told the High Court the case was down to an “ongoing feud”.
But Ms Madine’s lawyer said the dress and figurine ripped off key elements of her Fan Dress, adding: “The denial is ridiculous.”
Judge Amanda Michaels is expected to give her ruling next month.
