Olivia Newton-John’s missing lover is ‘found’ in Mexico after 12 years
OLIVIA Newton-John’s ex has reportedly been pictured alive in Mexico 12 years after he vanished.
Patrick McDermott, who was with the Grease star for nine years, was suspected of faking his death after he failed to return from a fishing trip off the coast of San Pedro, Los Angeles, in 2005.
Investigator John Nazarian said last year evidence pointed to McDermott settling with a German woman in Mexico.
And he now claims a photo shows the 60-yearold lounging with a woman on a beach in the Pacific coast town of Sayulita.
Mr Nazarian said: “The widow’s peak is exact. The eyes are very similar and the ears extend down on the head the same distance. I believe it is him.”
The image was allegedly found on a noticeboard at the El Palmar del Camaron beach campsite. McDermott was declared dead three years after his disappearance – despite none of the 22 passengers on the fishing boat Freedom seeing him go overboard.
Suspicions that he faked his death grew when it emerged he owed his ex-wife £7,000 in child support. The former cameraman had an on-off relationship with British-born Newton-John, 69, who was so devastated when he vanished she said she took antidepressants for three months “until I could see the light again”.
She said in a statement at the time: “I’m hopeful my treasured friend is safe and well, and I’m grateful to the officials working so hard to find Patrick, whom I love very much.”
According to the star’s nephew Emerson NewtonJohn, she split from McDermott after he began drinking heavily. Emerson also insisted she had no idea McDermott was in financial trouble.
