Over-80s to get own A&E

THE first A&E unit just for old people is to be set up.

Over-80s will be directed to an NHS department with specialists in geriatrics as well as emergencies.

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital said the county had “one of the largest” OAP populations and it was growing fast.

Martyn Patel, consultant at the Norwich hospital, said: “This means we’ve got to do something no one else has done in the UK, to ensure patients receive the best care.”
