POSTMAN PET

Royal Mail in doghouse after parcel is chewed up in bull mastiff’s pen

HERE’S the proof that the postal service really is going to the dogs.

Bull mastiff Milo got hold of a package for his owner after a postie dropped it into his pen without knocking at the house or leaving a card.

Stuart Evans, 41, found the chewed-up remains of the delivery in the outhouse Milo shares with labrador Digger and checked footage from CCTV cameras.

He and partner Aimee Sheppard, 29, were stunned to see the Royal Mail worker simply stand outside with the cardboard tube for almost a minute before “giving it to the dogs”.

Stuart said: “We were both in but we didn’t know he was there because he didn’t even knock. It was unbelievable. He knew he was giving it to the dogs. He obviously couldn’t be bothered to write out the card and fed it to the dogs.”

Footage showed Milo carrying off the package, which contained vinyl transfers for cleaner Stuart’s work van, in his mouth after the postie dropped it off in Mold, North Wales, last month.

Stuart added: “They ate the parcel and gave the contents a good chew.

“It could have been anything – rat poison, screws and bolts, fishing hooks, anything. Imagine if it had been something precious. I could have been sifting through dog poo for the next week.”

Royal Mail said the postie claimed he left the tube on the wall and it fell in.

A spokeswoman said: “We have apologised. We have spoken to the postman to ensure this does not happen again.”
