Strictly’s fans do splits over Aston

- Edited by FIONA PARKER

I LOVE Strictly Come Dancing and have been a fan for some years now but I am disgusted and incensed at new head judge Shirley Ballas voting off Aston and Janette on Saturday night.

Aston should never have been in the dance-off in the first place and, while I like Mollie King, she is no way as good as him.

As for Craig Revel Horwood awarding him a four, that’s the sort of score given in the first couple of weeks of the show.

I hope Shirley is taken to task over her massive error of judgement as she is clearly blinkered. Come back, Len Goodman, all is forgiven!

Jean Alfino, Felixstowe, Suffolk # I’m astonished by the outcry regarding the Strictly result and the clamour to blame the judges for Aston’s departure. Yes, they gave their scores and comments, but people need to remember the main part of the vote is the verdict of the viewers. The result was absolutely correct. It was based, as it should be, on the performance in the dance-off in which Aston and Janette were, sadly, second best. To those who criticise Shirley Ballas, I believe Len Goodman would have voted the same way. Sorry, the decision was right, the choreography was not.

Roy Wood Hemel Hempstead, Herts # I have never been more upset at Strictly. I thought Aston would stay until the last week as he is such a great dancer teamed with Janette. He was far superior than most of the contestants and a joy to watch. I can understand the outrage of viewers. The panel’s mood has definitely gone over the top since Len Goodman left, and I won’t be watching from now on.

Roberta Jones South Benfleet, Essex # What a load of nonsense about Aston’s shock elimination from Strictly. It was the public who put him in the bottom two and the rules stipulate the final result is based solely on the danceoff, not on past performances.

Mollie won that hands down, so well done to Shirley for making the professional decision. Stop moaning – it’s still the best show on telly!

Steve Williams York # I think people will vote for someone they like regardless of how good or bad their dancing is. Perhaps we should do away with the dance-off and return to the original method, which was the celebrity with the lowest number of votes gets sent home.

The dance-off only came about because the judges, and Len in particular, made a fuss if someone was voted off who they thought should stay. Let’s give that decision back to the viewers.

Joan Rosher, Fairford, Glos # Maybe it is time to stop the public voting for the dancers and leave it to the judges. They are the experts after all and could decide who stays in up to the finals before letting the public vote for the winner.

C Rooney, Liverpool # Head judge Shirley Ballas’s decision to send Aston home was wrong, extremely upsetting and has spoiled the series. What’s more, Craig Revel Horwood getting on his knees to bow to Debbie McGee was the most cringeworthy sight. I think the judges and producers want her to win as she has been given such praise.
