FARRELL AND ITOJE ARE HELD BACK FOR AUSSIES

- BY ALEX SPINK

OWEN FARRELL and Maro Itoje have been rested by Eddie Jones for England’s season-opener against Argentina.

The Red Rose boss wants to avoid burning out his star duo, who played lead roles in the Lions’ series draw with New Zealand.

So he is keeping them back until next week’s clash with Australia.

But wingers Elliot Daly and Anthony Watson (above), who started all three Tests against the All Blacks, will play at Twickenham on Saturday. In Farrell’s absence, Alex Lozowski starts at insidecentre, reprising the 10-12 partnership with George Ford that proved a success in England’s first Test win over Argentina. England stars may assist cash-strapped Samoa after its rugby body was declared bankrupt. ENGLAND (probable): M Brown; A Watson, J Joseph, A Lozowski, E Daly; G Ford, B Youngs; E Genge, D Hartley (capt), D Cole, G Kruis, C Lawes, C Robshaw, S Underhill, N Hughes.
