RIGHT UN FOR THE JOB
DAVID UNSWORTH is back in the frame to get the Everton job – because the Blues are split over who to appoint as Ronald Koeman’s successor. Unsworth’s chances have risen, despite losing three of his four games as caretaker boss, because Sam Allardyce is reluctant to accept the job on a short-term basis. Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri wanted Allardyce to take over for the rest of the campaign, as he looked to make a high-profile appointment for next season.
This does not appeal to Big Sam, who feels he deserves a crack at the job long-term, and the one-time favourite’s odds of landing the job have lengthened. Chairman Bill Kenwright is unsure about bringing in Allardyce and would ideally prefer Unsworth (left) to carry on.
It is understood that Moshiri has put out feelers to Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone. Carlo Ancelotti was approached, but ruled himself out.
Watford’s Marco Silva, former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel and Burnley’s Sean Dyche are also possible options.
