Dutch are so out of touch
FRANK de Boer ditched by Crystal Palace after five games this season and Ronald Koeman by Everton a month later – meaning that, with Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United sacking, three of Holland’s highest-profile coaches have been deemed failures by English cubs in the past 18 months.
In recent seasons top Dutch prospects like Memphis Depay, Vincent Janssen, and Marco van Ginkel made little impression after big moves to the Premier League.
And the national side has failed to qualify for next year’s World Cup.
While Europe’s top nations this week prepare for Russia 2018, Holland travel to Aberdeen for a meaningless friendly against Malky Mackay’s Scotland.
Sadly, for a country that has given so much to world football, the future’s not bright and it’s never looked less orange.
