‘Keep taking cancer drug’

-

BREAST cancer treatment should continue for decades as the disease can return up to 20 years after diagnosis, a study suggests.

It analysed data on some 60,000 women on hormonal therapy for five years.

After it ended more than 11,000 had a recurrence of cancer elsewhere. Yearly risk of recurrence, for up to 20 years, was constant.

Author Dr Hongchao Pan, University of Oxford, said: “This will help [with] decisions on how long to continue treatment.”
