Tower of courage

-

The Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards should have been a tough watch this year, after attacks including those in Manchester and London Bridge, and the horrific fire at Grenfell Tower. Yet, who can fail to have faith in humanity after watching the acts of selfless courage and decency our awards paid tribute to on Tuesday night.

It’s impossible to single out individual heroes from that night.

But since the morning after the Grenfell fire, I have been constantly amazed by the dignity of the tower’s survivors and the generosity of the community’s response.

Grenfell United’s Shahin Sadafi (above) spoke from the stage without bitterness when he paid tribute to volunteers and called for the whole country’s help in housing survivors and making other communities safe.
