Veteran MP facing ‘20yr pest’ claim
AN MP claimed last night she had suffered 20 years of unwanted attention from fellow Labour member Kelvin Hopkins.
Kerry McCarthy, 52, alleged he sent her letters and cards commenting on her appearance, including one in which he described having a dream about her.
The MP for Bristol East said: “I absolutely believe he knew this behaviour was unacceptable. It made me feel uncomfortable in his presence.”
Mr Hopkins, 76, suspended by the party over separate harassment claims, said the new allegations had caused him “immense personal hurt”.
He added: “I cannot understand why a longterm friend would not have told me she was unhappy with any aspect of our friendship rather than going to the press.”
