- BY GERARD COUZENS

STASH Cops used digger THREE Brits have been arrested after police used a JCB to smash a hidden drugs warehouse in Spain.

Officers found 1.2 tons of cocaine with an estimated street value of £54million stashed in the underground store. Most of it was bound for the UK.

The trio were held along with two Spaniards in the raid on a property south of Granada. More than half a ton of the drugs were found there. The rest was at a safe house in the Basque town of Zarautz.

A Spanish National Police spokesman said: “This is one of the biggest seizures ever on Spanish soil. The detainees are suspected members of an organised gang based in Spain and the UK.

“The gang was one of the most active in Europe.”
