Death penalty fear Brit had to watch cellmate give birth

- BY LUCY THORNTON

BRITISH tourist Laura Plummer, who could face the death penalty for taking banned painkillers into Egypt, had to watch a cellmate give birth.

Her MP Karl Turner wrote to Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson: “She’s never been in any trouble and now she’s sharing a cell with 25 people in very poor conditions, surviving on one meal a day.

“The other day, I’m told, a Syrian refugee gave birth.” Mr Turner, a former lawyer who is helping the shopgirl’s family, added: “What she has done is a criminal offence under Egyptian law and we must respect that. “It’s only right she is dealt with under their laws and not judged on what we think is right and wrong.” Laura, 33, from Hull, says her Egyptian boyfriend begged her to bring him the 29 strips of Tramadol and Naproxen to ease his severe back pain.
