PM is ‘toying with North’ over powers
A FORMER Minister today launches a blistering attack on Theresa May’s commitment to the North.
Jim O’Neill, who worked in the Treasury under David Cameron and Mrs May, accused the Prime Minister of cynically “playing with” the Northern Powerhouse.
Blasting the failure to hand the region new powers, Lord O’Neill said: “It’s politically beneficial for them to say nice things about the North.
“But whenever the chance comes, they don’t really demonstrate they’re really that committed to it. That stops at No10.”
The crossbench peer set a 2022 deadline for Transport for the North to be given the same powers as Transport for London.
