CORK DIDN’T BOTTLE BIG CALL-UP CHANCE

- BY DARREN LEWIS

JACK CORK missed a family holiday to answer Gareth Southgate’s England call.

The Burnley midfielder has also thanked the Three Lions boss (above) for enabling him to complete the journey from League One to the international stage with his debut against Germany.

Cork (right), who left Swansea for Turf Moor in July, said: “It’s amazing. I feel like I’ve done it hard, I’ve done my graft and played all the games from League One to Championship.

“Put myself out there. I feel I’ve played enough games to have merited a chance and I’m really happy the manager has trusted me to get in there.” His family flew off to Dubai without him after Southgate phoned him following last week’s withdrawals. Cork, 28, told them to go because he did not think he would actually play. He said: “I was about to go on holiday with the missus and the kids when the gaffer called me and said, ‘Do you want to come?’ I was going to Dubai with them, they’re there now. “They took my mum to help with the kids. I told them to go as I did not think I’d feature.”
