BoJo is risk to country

ACCOUNTABILITY and shame are lost from politics when a jailed mother weeps on the phone after Boris Johnson has endangered her life – yet the Foreign Secretary is allowed to cling to high office.

The terror of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe from her prison hell in Iran would have an honourable man signing a resignation letter.

But we shouldn’t be surprised at his refusal to admit even that he was wrong. Deceit and arrogance are the hallmarks of his ambition.

With Johnson’s crony Michael Gove doing his best to worsen the poor woman’s plight, we are living in a nightmare world where Britons arrested abroad are put at greater risk by the ignorance and prejudice of Tory Ministers playing games with people’s lives.

Foreign Secretary is a job for a grown-up with sound judgment, which means the sooner Johnson is out on his ear the better.

We want Ministers who stand up for Britons. We deserve better than these Tory liabilities.
