Teacher: I left ‘shameful’ note

Man admits rant put on ambulance

- BY MARTIN FRICKER

A TEACHER who stuck a moaning note on an ambulance after it blocked his drive has admitted: “What I did was monstrous.”

Hassan Shabbir, 27, wedged the message under the vehicle’s wiper while its crew were on a 999 call.

Paramedics found it after spending half an hour trying to save a man inside a rehab centre three doors away.

The man died later in hospital and the note went viral after medic Tasha Starkey posted it on Twitter. Written in capital letters, it read: “You may be saving lives, but don’t park your van in a stupid place and block my drive.”

Shabbir, who lives with his wife, children and parents, admitted he was to blame and felt “deeply ashamed”.

He said: “The action was monstrous but I’m not a monstrous person. I would like to apologise for any offence I have caused to the family of the man who passed away.

“I work in a school. I teach the children to respect the NHS.”

Shabbir, who said he appreciated the NHS for past arm surgery, claimed he acted in the heat of the moment because of ongoing parking problems in Small Heath, Birmingham.

Rehab centre manager John Hagans said the family of the 42-year-old man who died were “horrified” by the note.
