Murphy’s peace talk

- BY HECTOR NUNNS

SHAUN MURPHY wants to bury the hatchet with Ronnie O’Sullivan after his grudge-match Champion of Champions win.

Former world champion Murphy beat the Rocket 10-8 at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena on Sunday night for one of the biggest and sweetest wins of his life.

The pair have traded insults, but world No.5 Murphy took time out from celebrations to apologise.

Murphy said: “I’ve been very critical of Ronnie in the past and a bit judgmental about him – and it’s probably time I apologised for that. It’s been the wrong way to be.

“The mantle he carries, and has had to carry for 25 years, is very difficult to do. You come out here like on Sunday and the crowd are raucous and expect huge things of him.

“It’s not easy to deal with, he’s done it for a long time and I shouldn’t have said some of the things I did – it’s something I’m sorry about.”
