Time for May to say go to BoJo

-

If Boris Johnson had secret ambitions to be Prime Minister in the not too distant future, recent events should have put paid to that. His terrible gaffe in saying British mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was training journalists in Iran has put her in a perilous position. What an awful mistake to make through lack of judgement and research

On top of this, Boris claimed that opposing the extremely cruel “sport” of bullfighting is political correctness gone mad (Mirror, November 11).

What on earth is he talking about? The ethical treatment of animals has got nothing to do with political correctness. He really is out of touch and does not deserve to be in top flight politics. Diane Silva, Lytham, Lancs

When a British citizen is unjustly incarcerated in a jail abroad, the nation usually looks to the Foreign Secretary to help that person. Not any more. Bungling Boris Johnson’s recent gaffe has further imperilled Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. This time his loose tongue and lazy grasp of detail has made life much more difficult for Mrs Zaghari Ratcliffe. It is time for Johnson to resign or for Theresa May to sack him. David Bodimeade, Rayleigh, Essex

Let us not forget that the real villains in the arrest and imprisonment of Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe are the Iranians, but Boris Johnson did

nothing but harm with his illthought out comment. Now the Iranians say his remarks are proof that she was spying, Boris Johnson should do the decent thing and resign – or be sacked. Ken Pennington Stalybridge, Cheshire

Everybody knew that appointing this buffoon as Foreign Secretary was a disaster in the making, and so it has come to pass. The very man charged with the welfare of the UK and its citizens abroad, could cost a British mother five years of her life in an Iranian prison. Time to get your house in order, Prime Minister. A J Smith, March, Cambs

Boris Johnson, as every sensible person knows, is an opportunist of the first order. He lied about Brexit, has made sweeping statements without credibility and has made gaffe after gaffe – yet still Theresa May has not sacked him.

Her weakness and failure to curtail his ridiculous and, at times, dangerous behaviour means he is now set to strike in a battle for the leadership.

His smug grin could soon be sitting in Downing Street and, if that happens, God help us all. Mary Pester, Saltash, Cornwall

How is Boris Johnson able to cling to his position as Foreign Secretary, despite his obvious incompetence? To have this idiot as our global representative just beggars belief and makes this country a laughing stock. And to think that at one time we all thought an Eton education made you smart. D A Shaw, Tamworth, Staffs

Seeing your item about Boris “buffoon” Johnson backing bullfighting made my blood boil. This “sport” is downright cruelty and has no place in a civilised society – nor does Johnson! Debbie Richens, SE London
