A humble start for this rogue relative...

-

GARY Goldsmith’s antics are a far cry from the rest of the Middleton family.

A decade younger than his sister Carole, Gary was brought up with Kate’s mum by their painter decorator dad Ron and shop assistant mum Dorothy.

Counting Durham miners among their relatives, they lived in a small house in North London and went to state schools.

Dad Ron worked into his 70s to provide all he could for his family.

Carole went to work as a flight attendant for British Airways, where she met Michael Middleton.

Aged 15, Gary was an usher at their 1980 wedding. He married his first wife, sales executive Miranda Foote, in 1991, when he was working in IT.

He became a director of IT recruitment company Computer Futures within six months, selling his shares to make his fortune.

Goldsmith has one teenage daughter from his second marriage.

Carole, 62, and Michael, 68, became parents to Kate, 35, and her siblings, Pippa, 34, and James, 30.

They run a mail order party and decorations supply firm and own Bucklebury Manor, West Berks, with inherited wealth adding to their fortune.

In a 2013 interview, Goldsmith insisted his bond with his family was strong.

He said: “People like to think I’m this black sheep, a bad boy. I’m not really. I’ve had my moments but am I disliked by my family? No, that is simply not true. We have never fallen out.”
