SOFT TIGERS ARE LEFT TO STEW AGAIN

- BY ARINDAM REJ

KEVIN STEWART is demanding more mental strength from Hull after they surrendered.

The Tigers leaked a late goal for the eighth time in nine games when Ipswich’s Jordan Spence snatched an equaliser.

And midfielder Stewart (above), a summer signing from Liverpool, said: “If we were mentally stronger and kept the same style of play towards the end of the game, it would be us creating the chances late on.

“The players we’ve got and the club itself, we don’t deserve to be where we are. We put pressure on ourselves to get back to where we feel we should be – and that’s higher up the table.

“But talent alone isn’t always going to take you up the table.

“It’s really a fresh squad, so it will take a bit of time.”

With Hull fans still fuming at the way the club is run by owner Assem Allam, there was a toxic atmosphere around the ground.

Ipswich sensed vulnerability and seized the initiative, David McGoldrick shooting them in front. But prolific winger Jarrod Bowen hooked in the equaliser then Nouha Dicko slotted in to make it 2-1.

McGoldrick had a 75th-minute penalty saved by Allan McGregor, but Spence rescued Ipswich and said: “I don’t think anyone really enjoys playing against us and that’s how we need to be.

“I do look a threat from set-pieces this season. I’ve scored a couple with my head, so it’s nice to get one with my feet.”
