CARE TO THREEPEAT THAT?

Jones urges super Danny ‘Sanchez’ & Co to make it an historic hat-trick in the Six Nations

EDDIE JONES demanded his rampant England side make Six Nations history after super-sub Danny Care inspired them to a record win.

Care was hailed as English rugby’s answer to Alexis Sanchez after coming off the bench to spark a stunning three-try finishing burst.

The scrum-half later joked that he would be replacing his baby son’s No.9 England jersey with one numbered 21 as all but five of his 22 appearances under Jones have come as a replacement.

But boss Jones was not about to underplay Care’s influence as he challenged his squad to become the first team to win three successive Six Nations crowns.

He said: “Danny was like a little Sanchez playing for Arsenal; here, there and everywhere looking for opportunities. He saw the space and executed well. He was brilliant.

“There’s still a distance for us to get to number one in the world so we’ve got to keep working. Next up is Samoa, then the Six Nations and we want a ‘three-peat’ there. I don’t think any team has ever threepeated the Six Nations.”

England went into the game with Mako Vunipola warning they would be taken apart by the Wallabies if they did not sharpen up their act. Their response was impressive.

The sight of Joe Launchbury collecting his man-of-the-match award served as a reminder of how far they have come under Jones, with just one defeat now in 22 Tests.

Two years ago Australia humiliated their rivals, condemning them to be remembered as the only host nation ever to fail to get out of its World Cup group.

Launchbury got the award that day too and said he was “embarrassed” by it. He could not have been prouder this time round.

“Every time Joe plays he wins man of the match,” exclaimed Jones. “He’s not related to Stuart Barnes, is he? Seriously, he was outstanding. It was the first time he’s ever called the lineouts in a game.”

How different the narrative might have been had the Wallabies got anything out of the officials before Care came on to create tries for Jonathan Joseph and Jonny May (below, with Launchbury) and one for himself.

Time and again England enjoyed the bounce of the ball, not least with Elliot Daly’s extraordinary try which put daylight between the sides at the three-quarter mark. It was too much for Aussie boss Michael Cheika, who bit back at England fans goading him – and refused to apologise for his furious response to having two players sinbinned and two tries disallowed, while Daly’s contentious score stood.

At one point he appeared to say “f ****** genius!”

“Maybe I did swear,” he told beIN Sports Australia before walking out on the interview. “It happens sometimes in life. I’m sure you have as well, have you? Maybe the TV camera wasn’t on you at the time.”

ENGLAND - Tries: Daly, Joseph, May, Care. Cons: Farrell 2. Pens: Farrell 2.

AUSTRALIA - Pens: Hodge, Foley.
