I’M A STAR STRIKER... GET ME OUT OF HERE
Sturridge wants a quick Anfield exit to keep his World Cup dream alive
DANIEL STURRIDGE is ready to quit Liverpool in January to save his World Cup dream.
The striker was an unused sub in the last two games, despite scoring in his previous two outings.
His decision to cut his losses will spark a scramble for the 28-yearold (left), still seen as one of the Premier League’s most gifted finishers.
He was among seven high-profile players axed by Gareth Southgate for the prestige friendlies against
Germany and
Brazil earlier this month, the England boss saying he was not getting enough game-time to be in his current plans.
Sturridge fears the situation at Anfield is unlikely to change and is set to follow the likes of Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere in seeking a fresh start to get his career back on track.
That could depend on how much Liverpool want for him when the January transfer window opens. He was a £12million buy from Chelsea in 2013.
A loan deal is a possibility although Liverpool rejected the idea when Paris SaintGermain made an approach last winter.
Sturridge hoped his goals against Huddersfield and Maribor before the international break would give him an opportunity to re-establish himself in Liverpool’s first team.
But he was benched for a 4-1 win at West Ham and Saturday’s victory against Southampton.
Sturridge had an outstanding start at Anfield, with 35 goals in 49 games in his first 18 months. In just over three years since, he has 27 in 71 – but that is amid injuries and Jurgen Klopp using him as a fringe player.
