DIESEL drivers are likely to be hit with a tax rise of 1p a litre in the Budget, a trade body claims.

The Petrol Retailers Association said a well-placed source also revealed fuel duty will be cut by 1p a litre for petrol.

It said: “This would be a thinly disguised tax grab using air quality issues as justification.”

The PRA said the move would rake in more than £800million a year for the Treasury as more diesel is sold than petrol. The Treasury refused to comment.

SUPERMARKET giant Morrisons has slashed 10p off a litre of petrol in a Black Friday deal.

Shoppers who spend at least £50 in store will get vouchers at the tills that let them get unleaded at 107p per litre and diesel at 110p.

The fuel will be the UK’s cheapest and the deal runs until December 3, challenging the other big chains.

The Black Friday offer comes as experts fear motorists face an 8p-alitre hike by Christmas and a potential fuel-duty rise in tomorrow’s Budget.

AA figures show the average cost of petrol is at a three-year high of 120.5p for unleaded and 122.8p for diesel. Steve Mosey, Morrisons services director, said: “Motorists could face rising petrol prices, extra fuel tax and a busy Christmas shopping season so we’re doing what we can to help them.” Meanwhile, Lidl launches Black Friday deals on Thursday including Comte de Senneval Champagne down from £10.99 to £8.99 and Cimarosa Chardonnay at £ 2.99. Commercial director Ryan McDonnell said: “We’re pleased to be taking part in our first Black Friday promotion.” Tesco, Sainsbury’s and John Lewis will also join the Black Friday frenzy this week and a study by TSB found we will blow £300 each on bargains.
