PULIS NEVER HAD A CHANTS
West Brom target Allardyce after even some West Brom PLAYERS joined the fans in songs against sacked boss
WEST BROM want Sam Allardyce to save them, after even some Baggies players were heard chanting for Tony Pulis to go.
Albion yesterday fired Pulis with the side 17th, a point above the Premier League drop zone, after failing to win since August.
Pulis (above) faced growing flak from unhappy supporters after champions Chelsea ran riot at the Hawthorns on
Saturday. But Mirror Sport understands that fans were surprised to see at least two players later join in chants from executive boxes in the stadium’s East Stand.
Pulis insisted he had the support of the dressing room after the defeat, but his stubborn persistence in pragmatic tactics and consistently picking certain players caused issues.
Allardyce has a similar reputation for direct tactics but Albion’s Chinese owner Guochuan Lai has told club officials he is more concerned about survival than entertainment.
Lai has been willing to stomach Pulis’s brand of football while it was getting results. But just two wins in 21 league games, since last April, has Lai panicking about going down.
Allardyce is now fast emerging as Albion’s best option, after his work keeping both Crystal Palace and Sunderland up against the odds. Big Sam was born locally in Dudley, but previously sacked by the club in 1991, in the early days of his coaching career.
Albion also have an interest in former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson.
Assistant head coach and ex-manager Gary Megson is in temporary charge.
