Paedophile rapist unmasked when he is put in the same cell as victim... 36 years later
A PERVERT who raped a boy of six was nailed 36 years later when he shared a prison cell with his stunned victim.
Gary Mottershead, 50, was arrested for assaulting his wife in 2015 and remanded in custody.
But his cellmate, an alleged burglar, recognised him as the brute who attacked him while working as his babysitter and told a jail guard.
Now dad-offour Mottershead has been jailed for six years for the crimes he thought he had got away with when he was just 15.
A court heard he plied the youngster with cider before attacking him during a reign of abuse between 1981 and 1983. He told him it was “their little secret” and threatened to sexually abuse his sister if he told anyone.
The victim, now in his 40s, was so traumatised by the experiences he later turned to a life of alcohol, drugs and organised crime.
After Mottershead, of Sale, Gtr Manchester, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault on a child, Judge Timothy Mort told him: “What you did caused serious emotional distress and has had a bearing on his involvement with crime.
“You may have been emotionally immature at the time but you were physically mature and you knew you were there to babysit and you were being paid.
“This was an abuse of trust situation. This pattern of abuse must have occurred at least 15 if not 20 times.”
Minshull Street crown court in Manchester heard how the victim was “distressed and shaking” as he relived his nightmare. In a statement letter to his attacker, he wrote: “I have lived with this all my life and kept it a secret. Prison was the last place I expected you to be and I felt I couldn’t get away from it.’’
After the case, Det Con Paul Walls, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “Mottershead’s behaviour was an abuse of trust and shows his depravity.
“The way he acted with a six-year-old boy is disgraceful and I am grateful to the victim that he bravely reported his actions.”
