RODGERS: PSG STILL NOT A ‘BIG CLUB’

- Dec 5 FROM MICHAEL GANNON in Paris Dec 5

BASEL: MAN UTD: REFEREE: TV TIMES: BT Sport 2 from 7.15pm BRENDAN RODGERS insisted Paris Saint-Germain might be the richest club in the world, but Celtic have something money can’t buy.

Bhoys boss Rodgers knows his side cannot compete with the Paris powerhouses when it comes to finances. The French big guns have coughed up more than £900million in just six years, since the takeover by Qatar Sports Investments.

PSG splashed an eyewatering £200m for Neymar in the summer to form a £400m frontline with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe.

Celtic were beaten 5-0 at home by PSG but Rodgers (above) says it will take decades before the French side create the kind of history Celtic have built – and no amount of cash can create a club’s soul.

He said: “Absolutely. You can’t buy that. We have to do what we do in our world. We will never be able to do this here (spend so much money).

“But Celtic have something a lot of clubs don’t have – a rich history, a support and a fanbase a lot of clubs don’t have. It is the big challenge we have, but it is a challenge we are progressing on.

“Speak about PSG in 20 years’ time. This is the formation now of a club that has investment and they clearly want to be winners. Can they then sustain that over time?

“If you are talking big, iconic clubs, for me a big club has history, support, a fan base and all that.

“Celtic, of course, has all that, but we don’t have anywhere near the finances of a club like PSG.” PSG: CELTIC:
