UNSWORTH NEEDS TOUCH OF KLAASS

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

FORGOTTEN man Davy Klaassen will be offered the chance to revive his Everton career in the Europa League dead rubber tomorrow.

The Holland star (above) arrived amid great fanfare for a £25million fee in the summer but has struggled to make any sort of impact on Merseyside. And when the manager who signed him, Ronald Koeman, was sacked, it seemed the midfielder’s chance of an extended Goodison Park stay was over. Caretaker boss David Unsworth immediately axed Klaassen and he has not been seen near the first team since.

On his last appearance he was hauled off at half-time during the embarrassing home defeat by Lyon, four days before former coach Koeman departed.

Unsworth ignored Klaassen for the return in Lyon but now, with the Blues already out of the competition, the big-money signing will be given a chance to prove himself once more against Atalanta tomorrow.

And Unsworth, still hopeful of getting the Everton job full time, will also give run-outs to summer flop Sandro Ramirez and Nikola Vlasic, who was signed for £10m in the transfer window. Vlasic was one of the few summer signings to perform well under Koeman, but he has been left out by Unsworth.

Everton’s pursuit of Watford boss Marco Silva (below) seems to have stalled so Unsworth has at least one more game to impress his Goodison paymasters.

He will use it to blood more of the youngsters he coached for the Everton Under-23s.

But it is Klaassen most eyes will be on, with the Blues fans wondering whether he can finally deliver the creative influence in midfield Everton have been lacking this season.
