WHY DON’T YOU TRUST US?
Klopp: If we win, it’s, ‘we’re good.. but’. If we slip up it’s, ‘they have goofed again’
JURGEN KLOPP claims no one believes in Liverpool because they keep on messing up. His team have been slammed for blowing the chance to qualify for the Champions League last 16 by losing a 3-0 half-time lead to draw 3-3 against Sevilla. They face Chelsea this evening at Anfield and Klopp says their critics ignore the fact they reeled off four straight wins prior to Sevilla. “After the Southampton game, which was a really good one, everyone was really happy,” said the Reds boss. “Then we played the Sevilla one. After the second half, a few things came up and people are talking like this and you feel how it’s different. “No-one is really believing in us. You can feel it. If we do good, it’s good, but… “And if we don’t do good, it’s they have goofed again. The problem is the whole world watches our mistakes. That’s the problem. “Television and all that stuff. A lot of people say things about it, a lot of former players are saying things about it. “That’s our life, it will never change. We don’t have to think about it. We just have to carry on.” Alberto Moreno copped most flak because he was at fault for t w o goals, but Klopp stoutly defended the Spaniard, claiming he still trusts him “100 per cent”. Klopp feels he might have been affected by all the emotion surrounding his return to his home city and former club and insists he supports his left-back. “In Sevilla, everyone was talking to him like they
were talking to a family member,” said the German.
“You lose one, two, three per cent of concentration, you come a little too late and that’s how it started. That’s how it is.
“It’s not a player to blame, I am 100 per cent responsible for that. I told him I still trust him 100 per cent.
“I had a talk with Alberto and I’m really happy about his shape. I’m really happy about his performances. It was really my responsibility.” And Klopp also claims Mohamed Salah has nothing to prove when he lines up against former club Chelsea.
He made just 13 appearances, scoring only two goals, during a difficult 12-month spell there and Klopp said: “He had a disappointing time?
“I really can’t get it. He was very young in a very strong team and he didn’t come through. That happens very often. That was a long ago.
“I do not think he has anything to prove and I do not think he sees it like that, either.” Klopp felt some sympathy for Chelsea boss Antonio Conte’s claims that Liverpool have an unfair advantage because they have had a day longer to prepare.
“I really get what Antonio is talking about, but maybe he forgot they had the best Christmas schedule last year,” he said.
“Everyone played every two days and they had 12 days to play three games.”
