Lucy’s star champions

-

Lucy made a legion of famous friends after becoming the poster girl for the fight against puppy farming and the thirdparty sale of dogs.

She’s been the star at events organised by the campaign Pup Aid, where there were lots of hugs from Countdown’s Rachel Riley, Made in Chelsea’s Lucy Watson, and Downton Abbey star Peter Egan.

“The victims of third-party sellers are the puppies and the breeding females, who suffer so appallingly at the hands of careless puppy farmers and traders,” said Peter.

“They have no voice except ours so we must for their sake let it be heard and end third-party sales.

“This will force puppy farms in the UK to close or radically improve their conditions, and help stem the flow from the massive puppy breeding farms in Ireland and Eastern Europe.”

Another star who had the pleasure

of meeting Lucy was comedian and passionate dog-lover Paul O’Grady. “The puppy farms that exist both in this country and abroad are just horrific,” he said. “The conditions that the puppies and their mothers are kept in are harrowing and dreadful – locked in filthy cells with no human contact.

“We have a responsibility to look after and care for animals not to abuse them.

“Until the system is changed the people running puppy farms will continue to make money out of cruelty and get away with it.”

Other stars to have met Lucy include Chloe Khan of Celebrity Big Brother and Countryfile’s Anita Rani, while Ben Fogle bumped into her at the National Pet Show at Birmingham’s NEC in 2014.
