Pair jailed after football star Andy trolled by ‘his abuser’

- BY KEITH PERRY

A TEENAGER and his father have been jailed for trolling footballer Andy Woodward about sex abuse he suffered.

Lewis Hawkins, 18, created a bogus Twitter account using a photo of the man who targeted the star in the 80s.

It was used to troll Andy days after he waived anonymity over the scandal in the sport last year.

One message showed his abuser sucking a lollipop and said: “Hi Andy, fancy popping round mine?” The former Crewe player, 44, told Chester crown court: “The content of the messages horrified me to the point I felt dizzy. It made me feel sick.” Hawkins’s dad David Riches, 45, initially took the blame. His son later confessed. Both pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. Hawkins also admitted sending an indecent or grossly offensive message. The pair, both from Crewe, got 12-month jail terms.
