VODAFONE CALLED OUT
Thousands of Vodafone customers will be able to escape their contract early after the firm unfairly changed their charges.
The mobile phone giant introduced new international roaming charges in April.
Customers were told about the new fees by text, but communications watchdog Ofcom slammed the firm because the message wasn’t clear enough.
The company should have made it clear that people had 30 days to cancel their contracts free of charge.
Now people who found themselves forced to pay more because of the charge change have been given extra time to decide whether they want to leave without paying a penalty.
Customers affected would have received a text in April or May telling them about the introduction of Vodafone’s ‘Roam-further’ charge.
Some 55,000 customers were estimated to have faced “material detriment” following the new charges.
