Mallet attack hubby jailed

A MAN who drunkenly attacked his estranged wife with a mallet in a “moment of madness” has been jailed for three years.

Douglas Hellier Laing, 67, hit 59-year-old Susan Laing three times around the head with a wooden mallet then confessed his crime to police.

He and his wife were divorcing but lived in the same house, Exeter crown court was told.

Local councillor Hellier Lang, of Chudleigh, Devon, admitted wounding with intent to cause GBH.
