Gemma & Aljaz

-

How has Strictly been for you?

G: I’ve never danced and I never did stage or drama school and putting on a show every Saturday is so new to me.

There is no way I could have done this competition with anyone else apart from Aljaz. He has been there as a friend. He’s just a great positive energy. How is Gemma as a partner? A: She has taught me so much about determination, commitment, work ethic. I can never say thank you enough for being the best partner on Strictly. I have had the best series.

Some beautiful ups and some lows but we got here. Why do you and Aljaz get on so well? G: I’ve had 57 training sessions and for each training session he has made me laugh til my stomach hurts. What makes it so lovely is we’ve got here with that kind of fun element as well as grafting. When did you see her potential? A: Every day we work hard and at the end of the week we have a beautiful dance and result. Gemma is up at 4.30am to do the breakfast show so when I see her at 10am she’s almost cross-eyed.

Every day you are proud. I never felt, “Let’s get to the final and let’s win.” I just want to do the best dance each week. Do you see yourself as a role model? G: I’m not your petite kind of dancer’s physique. I’m broad, I’m tall and everyone said there’s no way you can do it because you’re too muscular. So for any women who aren’t five foot and tiny – you can do it and you can enjoy it. What is your fave dance of the other finalists? G: Alex’s paso. It was so early on in the competition, the choreography was great and she nailed it. What are you doing in 2018? G: I’ve just signed for another year of the radio show. Then I’ll be hounding this lot on the group messenger seeing when we’re going out dancing.
