Youngest to notch up 100 marathons

- BY LILLIE ALMOND

A STUDENT has become the youngest person to run 100 marathons.

Sophie Goodwin finished her 100th in two years on December 2, aged 21 and 152 days.

She started running to keep her 60-year-old mum Carol company but initially did not enjoy it.

She said: “I was tired after a mile. I was also battling an eating disorder and other issues with my mental health.”

Sophie, a philosophy student at University of East Anglia, said marathon running has changed her life for the better.

Guinness World Records confirmed Sophie, of Norwich, had applied to challenge the world record, currently standing at 24 years 351 days set in Chester in October 2011.
